Artist BIo
My name is Sze Jones, and I'm excited to share a little bit about myself with you. I've had an incredible journey in my art career, graduating with a BFA and MA in Computer Graphics and studying jewelry techniques in Los Angeles and Berkeley, California. Additionally, I studied fine art at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art and Bay Area Classical Artist Atelier
Over the past 25 years, I've worked as a professional character artist in the video game industry, designing costumes, hair, and makeup. I've also created tabletop miniatures and collectible figures as a digital sculptor.
In my personal artwork, I enjoy blending traditional fine art and digital techniques to create meaningful and communicative pieces. My background as a dancer and musician has inspired me to create my art with movements, gestures, and emotional expressions, resulting in narrative and storytelling works that express life experiences, transformation, and aspirations.
My process starts with jotting down my visions in thumbnail sketches in pencil, refining the design with water-soluble graphite, and outlining the final design with waterproof sumi-e ink. After the linework is completed, layers of watercolor with gradients are applied, and the final layer of highlights is added with gouache.
In jewelry making, I experiment with traditional metalsmithing and digital 3D sculpting techniques. I'm passionate about creating imaginative designs adorned with enamel, natural gemstones, and precious metals. It brings me great joy to share these unique pieces with collectors who appreciate art and timeless beauty.
My jewelry work has been featured in Vanity Fair and Brides magazines, and I strive to infuse cultural richness and a love of classical art into whimsical, poetic, and sentimental translation in jewelry form, creating wearable poetic sculptures. My jewelry works are collectible and resemble museum relics and timeless heirlooms.
As an artist, I'm committed to sourcing materials ethically and using environmentally safe techniques. It's important to me that my work reflects my values and beliefs, and I hope that my jewelry and art bring inspiration and positivity to my collectors.
My goal as an artist is to transform meaningful and intentional messages into visual poetry through designs, color choices, sculptural form, and detailed linework. Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about my art and my journey!
